Unblock 2021 is a celebration of software development that aims to spark interest in amateur and expert developers alike. Unblock 2021 was created to make blockchain better by encouraging the development of robust, relevant applications that can bring value to people to people.

The Nano Foundation have set tracks to ensure that coding isn’t the only way to contribute to the hackathon. There are additional incentives to capture the array of skills that our non-technical members of the nano community have to offer.

We are looking out for the best article writers, content creators and community growth hackers to join the Unblock 2021 hackathon.

The hackathon will take place in three phases: know, imagine, and code.

To kick off the “know” phase, nano founder Colin LeMahieu will be delivering a webinar presentation and Q&A session on March 6th at 4.30 PM (IST)/ 11.00 AM (GMT).

Community Projects

WeNano turns 1

Join the WeNano team in celebrating their achievements over the past year, as they share the key pillars that shape how nano is experienced and utilized across the world through the ground-breaking app!

WeNano celebrates 1 year since launch

WeNano have also released their first round of new features for 2021, which includes the launch of Spotmarket, a new way to earn and spend nano in your local community and an overall reduction to the minimum spot payout amount to help spread nano, just that little bit further.

Kaiak Wallet

Designed to work on KaiOS devices, the new Kaiak wallet is the first nano wallet dedicated to service emerging markets. KaiOS has the 2nd largest share in India after Android and over 100 million users.

The Nano Foundation will be financially supporting Kaiak’s bid to get listed on the KaiOS store, which is currently awaiting approval. In the meantime try the in-browser demo.

For those interested, the creators of the wallet have an active Q&A on the r/cc subreddit.

To further support and encourage the creation of nano applications that cater to the KaiOS user base, the Nano Foundation has included a development track on the Unblock 2021 hackathon.

Nano IFTTT integration

In February we saw the launch of a Nano x IFTTT API by community developer Hectorchu.

Often referenced as the “if this, then that” service, and a fan favourite with banking platforms such as Monzo, IFTTT is the go-to automation tool that helps to connect over 650 services and brands that include web apps, social media, and smart devices to run automated tasks.

For example, nano developers can now create an IFTTT applet that connects to a Telegram account and set up and automated trigger that sends you notifications when a specific nano address receives nano.

Head on over to the IFTTT website to get started using this handy new tool.

Go Nano Payments

Thanks to Nano Payments, over 3 million Woo-Commerce merchants can now accept nano in their stores. Gonano Payments is a free and easy-to-use payment processor for nano.

The plugin removes a technical barrier, allowing merchants to easily accept nano payments without needing to know the details of how nano works or removing the requirement to set up a nano node, manage wallet keys or how to use the RPCs.

The WooCommerce plugin for this payment gateway can be downloaded from the WordPress Plugin Directory.

The Nano RPC Proxy server now supports advanced stat collection via Prometheus

If you are running this server for your project it’s gotten just that more interesting. Collecting stats via Prometheus and displaying them via Grafana is a powerful way to dive into the performance of your API.

The additional functionality allows you to break up requests per action, load over time, node performance or request rate analysis. Click here for more info.
